Protection against biofilms is twofold: prevention and destruction. Simply removing free or surface microorganisms associated with biofilms, without removing the biofilm structure from a surface, can result in rapid recolonization of organisms from within the remaining biofilm matrix.
How It Works
The PerQuat technology has the unique ability to attack and collapse the protective EPS (extracellular polymeric substances) matrix, penetrate the outer layer of the biofilm, eliminate pathogenic microorganisms, dissolve the biofilm structure and chemically remove the biofilm structure from a surface.
The Science
The active ingredients of the PerQuat technology are based on quaternary ammonium compounds (commonly referred to as quat) and hydrogen peroxide. The main function of quat is to act as a phase transfer agent, combining with the peroxide ion to form a ‘PerQuat’ molecule. This synergistic combination gives Sterilex products their unique efficacy in penetrating biofilms and provides a superior level of performance through multiple physical and chemical mechanisms of action, including hydrolysis, oxidation and solubilization.
