Founded in 1994, Sterilex has become a recognized leader in the development of anti-microbial, anti-biofilm and decontamination products.

In 2021, Sterilex received a strategic investment from Paine Schwartz Partners, a global leader in sustainable food chain investments. This alliance allows Sterilex to continue to innovate and expand its product portfolio, ensuring cleaner and safer environments around the world.

1989

Founded by the US Army

The founders of Sterilex were funded by the U.S. Army to develop a universal decontamination technology against biological and chemical warfare agents. A talented research team developed a unique technology (PerQuat®), designed to remove biofilms and eliminate resistant microorganisms present in them.
1991

NFPA studies demonstrate the efficacy of PerQuat.

First publication of studies conducted by the National Food Processing Association (NFPA) that demonstrated that PerQuat chemistry was effective in eliminating Listeria in biofilm, and more effective than other routinely used sanitizers.
1995

Incorporation of Sterilex in the State of Maryland

Sterilex Corporation was incorporated in the State of Maryland with the mission to develop specialized antimicrobial products for markets where biofilm control is a key factor.
1999

Sterilex Receives EPA Records

Sterilex receives the first group of EPA registrations for its powder and liquid products.
2000

Mandatory use of Sterilex products

Sterilex products were required for use by one of the largest global meat and poultry processing companies.
2001

Maryland Industrial Partnership Award

Sterilex receives Maryland Industrial Partnerships award for demonstrating the efficacy of PerQuat in removing biofilm in dental unit water lines.
2005

EPA registration with claims of efficacy against biofilm.

Sterilex becomes the first company to receive EPA registration with anti-biofilm efficacy claims for public health and industrial use sites.
2008

USDA National Research Initiative

Sterilex is the recipient of a USDA National Research Initiative grant entitled ‘Improved Methods for Controlling Biofilms Containing Listeria monocytogenes in Meat and Poultry Processing Environments’.
2012

Distribution throughout North America

Sterilex establishes full distribution throughout North America for its portfolio of sanitizing products in food and beverage plants.
2015

Trademark Registration + Regulatory Approval in Canada

Sterilex obtains trademark registration and regulatory approvals in Canada.
2016

IAFP Food Safety Innovation Award

Sterilex Ultra Powder wins Food Safety Innovation Award from the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).
2016

Sterilex Sells Rights to CrossTex International

Sterliex sells the rights to Sterilex Liquid Ultra Solution 1 and Sterilex Liquid Ultra Solution 2 for dental unit water line applications to Crosstex International.

Launch of Sterilex Ultra Step

Sterilex launches the next generation of floor sanitizers, Sterilex Ultra Step.
2017

Launch Indicon Gel

Indicon Gel is specifically designed to identify the presence of biofilm on a surface. When the product comes into contact with biofilms, the gel quickly produces micro bubbles in foam in less than two minutes.
2022

Launch ProvaStride

Sterilex launches its safe EPA-registered dry sanitizer product, specifically designed for plants looking to go quat-free.
2024

Launch of ProvaCharge Foam in the United Kingdom

Sterilex launches ProvaCharge Foam (patent pending) in the United Kingdom.
2025

UK launch of ProvaStep

Sterilex launches ProvaStep in the UK. ProvaStep is a dry, granular disinfectant that revolutionizes floor hygiene.
