Water Line Disinfection
Prevention of Diseases
A contaminated water supply is one of the fastest pathways for introducing disease pathogens into a poultry house. However, clean water is of little value if it is delivered to the birds through a water line system that contains pathogens lodged within biofilms and layers of mineral deposits.
Water lines are an ideal environment for biofilm formation, and disinfectants applied directly to poultry drinking water are ineffective in penetrating and removing biofilms once they have formed. A study published in BMC microbiology suggested that about two-thirds of the water lines in broiler facilities may be contaminated with biofilm.
